Faith in the Corporate Workplace

Postby RaZella » December 21st, 2009, 9:30 pm

In today's world it has become a true challenge sometimes for me to keep "faith" in the corporate work environment. I fear a co-worker may overhear me talking about a church function or reading a spiritual work and be "offended" by me and report me to HR. At the same time I feel conflicted with how to ensure that I am not being ashamed of my faith or hiding it just because of the "world's corporate workplace". Does anyone else ever feel this way or understand what I'm trying to say? And if so, in what ways do you keep your faith in the workplace without being "offensive" yet also without hiding it? Lately I have found that I just answer questions honestly and openly without hiding who I am or that I am a Christian, while simultaneously not making my reading material or belief "splattered" all over my desk. Just looking for maybe a discussion on how the Christian survives in the corporate jungles.

RaZella,

I used to work in a public library and faced similar issues, so I know what you are going through. I handled it pretty much the way you are, being open and honest without being confrontational or displaying materials that promoted my beliefs on my desk or around my work area. I was one of fewer than 10 employees, so I imagine that there is a higher likelihood of you facing issues than there was for me, but it was still a concern. I wouldn't say that I had any major run-ins, although there were a few times when things got uncomfortable when dealing with members of the public, rather than co-workers.

I wish I had some advice for you, but I will hold you up in prayer!

God bless,
Nate
